Hi, my name is Mikhail and I’m 32. I was born in Odessa but have been living in NY for 14 years already. I’m a paparazzo but before that I’ve tried different jobs, from a TV editor to a gold melter.
I love my job because it’s always something new, always interesting. So, it’s November, 15th. A regular day. Victoria Beckham is in city and I have to take some good photos of her. I’ve just moved to a new agency and have to prove them that I’m good at my job. Besides, people like Victoria Beckham, that’s why they pay well for pictures with her.
I had to wake up at 5 a.m. but overslept.
Do not panic!
Don’t have time to shave again.
My bathroom is under reconstruction because it has been flooded by my neighbours from upstairs. The second toothbrush belongs to my girlfriend who’s having her vacation in India.
My bedroom. Those are my camera, lenses, a flash…
My kitchen.
Marty, the rabbit. This is who really lives here.
I found him on the street. He’s amazing! So gentle and smart. Sometimes I take him for a walk and there, on the street, he plays with dogs! He does like to communicate! Who could have thrown such a cutie away!
Feeding Marty…
This is my turtle. Her name is Nadezhda.
Her story is pretty sad but it has a happy end too. Nadezhda is a freshwater turtle but some bastards threw her into the Ocean where cormorants almost ate her alive… but we saved her. It took her years to forget about what’d happened to her. Now, she’s a good friendly turtle who will always let you pet her for a while.
She lives in the living room/tea room.
Now it’s my turn to eat something.
Every day I have the same breakfast. An omelette with sausages and sheep cheese.
I always read news during my breakfast because it’s boring to just eat.
I finally head to work.
This is where I live. It’s South Brooklyn and it’s just a seven-minute walk from the Ocean.
It’s cloudy and warm. Something 18 degrees Celsius above zero.
I have to go to Manhattan so it’s going to take me 40 minutes to one hour.
The Brooklyn Bridge.
On my way I receive text messages from my collegue from France. By the way, the company I work for is French and I’m the only Russian there.
Manhattan.
This is where Victora is staying.
Texting a friend of mine from another agency.
As I thought, I’m late. No paparazzi and no Victoria.
I decide to check the Plaza Hotel, because this is one of the places where I might find Victoria.
Instead of her, I found this beautiful car.
Begin to panic… Calling my boss.
He didn’t answer, so I forget about Victoria and decide to find Madonna.
This is her home but her car is not here. See those owl?
Wait, wait, wait… A big part of my work is waiting.
At some point I give up and go to Facebook.
But suddenly I receive information that Victoria’s car is nearby and I rush to find her, forgetting about Madonna.
Here’s her car!
Photos that I post here are all low quality because good ones are for sale, sorry.
Victoria is in a store buying some stuff for her little daughter.
This guy is her guard.
She’s getting in her car and going away. So I follow her.
Her car pulls over and she heads to a restaurant.
While she’s eating, I have to e-mail the photos to my office.
Done.
Now I have to find the best place to take photos from.
More and more photographers arrive. Passers-by, seeing all this decide to wait for the celebrity too to take a look at her.
At some point the manager of the restaurant calls the police. Why?
Victoria and her baby.
Again I have to chase her car and here she comes.
When she left, photographers began e-mailing their photos to their offices.
Victoria.
A short talk with my boss, discussing plans for tomorrow. So, it’s still early and I’m already free which is very unusual.
The traffic light near my house.
Home, sweet home.
I’m starving because I haven’t had anything since morning. I have to order some food and today it will be Chinese.
Charging the batteries.
Here’s my food.
I didn’t eat all of that and left some for tomorrow.
Facebook!
And a cigarette at the balcony.
I recall that I haven’s done the tea cups since yesterday, so this is what I’m going to do.
Catherine called me from India, so we talked.
Now I have to play with my rabbit and then – bedtime! Bye!
