One Day In Denver: Players And Other Animals

Hello. My name is Grigory and I live in Chicago. I am a programmer.

I like playing ‘What? Where? When?’ and sometimes go to different cities for a new game. This time I want to show you November, 4th. That day I spent in Denver.

I am a happy person because I can wake up whenever I want. As for the alarm clock, I set it about once a year and that day was the the day for it. However, I woke up by myself before the alarm clock rang.

Air companies keep raising prices for luggage so I take the minimum of what I need.

This is my rucksack. I just have to pack my gadgets and batteries.

My niece pictured her family like this. Her teacher was surprised seeing me in there. The point is that my niece thinks everybody living with her a member of her family.

What remained after Halloween.

Even though I have no time, I can’t help showing you this bathroom renovated by my brother. I’m very proud of him.

This sauna is going to be completed soon too.

But still we have a lot of work to do.

Looking at myself in the mirror before leaving the house (for good luck).

On my way, I picked up a couple of fellow travellers.

Two more joined us at the airport.

Sasha was furious when I took a photo of her “with no make-up”. I think the picture is good.

Behind the parking lot there is a train station.

At the airport, we had to stay in a long line to be checked.

7 a.m. and we’ve just took off.

The closer we approach Denver, the more snow I see.

We’ve landed and I put my watch one hour back.

The Denver airport has a roof stylized as mountain peaks. 25 million tourists visit Denver each year because it has amazing ski resorts.

I enjoy the view of the mountains while I wait for a train to bring me to a rental car center.

My fellow travellers have left for a tour to caves and hot springs and I stayed. I have to meet my teammate from NY.

In the hotel.

Checking my e-mail.

This is Vadim, my friend. He has lost his purse and asked the air company to search for it. Luckily, he didn’t lose his passport.

This is our brunch.

While eating, we check each other’s knowledge for the game.

Heading to downtown. The road is so good and wide that it took us just about 30 minutes to get there.

Vadim loves zoos and I don’t mind going there. By the way, last time in Chicago he also lost his purse. Déjà vu.

Trying to take photos of all these animals I realized that I have to change my digital camera for a new reflex camera.

A catfish.

This monitor lizard is about 3 meters long!

A wonderful rhino.

It’s not moss what you see on the elephant’s back. It’s grass he’s covered himself with (in wild nature, they cover themselves with sand).

A Polar fox.

A white bear.

This grizzly is so clean and shining!

Bears have celebrated Halloween too.

A mongoose.

A hyperactive shrew.

This female orangutan is eating snow as if it were ice cream.

Here, they sell souvenirs related to gorillas.

Vadim is trying on a suit tailored for gorillas. It’s loose.

Downtown is not really big in Denver, just about 30 skyscrapers.

Definitely, Denver copies New York with its architecture.

It also copies Washington!

Just like in New York or Washington, you will never find a free parking spot in downtown. It applies to other cities too though.

Walking in downtown Denver.

The White House.

This is the Capitol. Denver copies other large cities with its occupants too.

A cowboy.

An Indian.

On the roof of Denver Art Museum there is the same couple!

Is it a monument to a broom?

There are a lot of construction sites in Denver and it turned out that it was a bad idea to go back to the car a new way.

We almost got lost while looking for the parking lot because we mixed 14th Avenue and 14th Street! You be careful!

On the way to the hotel.

I’m hungry and I want to sleep. What do I need more? Sleep.

At the hotel, they put several pillows on the bed, each one is of a different size.

I didn’t sleep well.

Now I have to prepare for the game which is scheduled for 9 p.m.

I’ve designed a new plan for the game. There will be no teams. Participants with switch and earn their own points.

I’m at the conference hall and hurray I see pizzas!

Each participant was welcomed by these charming ladies. They distributed pens, badges and other things participants may need during the game. They even released a newspaper about the event in Russian!

This is the newspaper.

Organizers of the game have done a really good job!

This is Khaim, the organizer, and his assistants.

We’re playing the game according to my scenario.

This is a friend of mine whom I admire. He’s 80 but is still unbelievably active and creative!

The game is over.

These are a couple of good friends of mine too. Very talented and smart girls. They’re from Boston.

They’ve brought some wine! Good!

Tired. Time to sleep.
