One Day In the Vicinity of the Elbrus

Hello to all readers of this community. I am Aslan, 33, live in Nalchik (capital of Kabardino-Balkaria). Below I’ll tell you how I spent 6th March, 2012 in the vicinity of the mount Elbrus with friends. It was the first day in the mountains where I hadn’t been for 7 years.

Time when I woke up

Washed, brushed teeth and took a self-shot.

My modest breakfast

In half an hour I left home

We took Maryana from Baksan (capital of vodka making industry of the North Caucasus) and drove further.

Views on the way

Kishpek

Probably the most successful shot of that day :)

Soon we were at Tyrnyauz

Tyrnyauz

The city where in Soviet time they extracted tungsten and molybdenum for the needs of space field met us with semi-destroyed hangars.

And panel houses

And old bright posters

In this boarding house we spent the following two days of our rest.

“Here Vladimir Vysotsky (Russian famous singer) wrote his popular songs about the mountains”.

Reception

Museum named after V. Vysotsky

Funny calendar for skiers, snowboarders etc.

Soviet furniture but rather clean

The internet connection was good

The room was not expensive + 3 meals a day – not bad for an unpretentious tourist.

Time 3-01 pm

We left our things in the room and went downstairs to the hall

Souvenirs for tourists

Original clock with the logo of the main Russian TV channel

Bar

Unusual map of the territory

Dining hall, upper floor is for VIP

We were brought tea to warm and think what to do further

Dream of tea lovers

“Mountains are calling”

Maryana made up a wise decision to have a nap before climbing the mountains. Me and Alex began roaming about and looking for signs that would give us a hint what to do next. And we found one.

Transport of the boarding house took tourists to any field: Cheget or Azau for free. We chose Cheget.

Baksan.

The weather was not nice

We were late so we couldn’t use cableway – it stopped working at 4 pm.

Cheget is a field 100 x 100 m, it has about 10-15 hotels.

Weird title: “Captain Drink”

Count the number of hotels yourself

“Herbal tea”

Cableway

Nice wooden trimming over the plastic

The biggest hotel in Cheget. In Soviet times it was the only one on this field…

Hall of the hotel

Old stained-glass wondows

Evil rabbits)

Vintage dining hall

Skiers and freeriders are making a little ski jump from snow.

This skier ran into me, for the first time I thought about life insurance… )

Walking around

Found one more cableway, seemed it didn’t work.

Having seen enough of jumpers and got cold we decided to return

The sign must be older than me…

Time

Our supper: beet salad, meatballs in sauce, bread, fruits, mineral water, tea/coffe/coffee with milk

We came back and woke up Maryana, she wanted to kill us in Mafia game, but didn’t find enough players among guests, so we survived.

Anyway she won us many times in other games

We lost a great deal of times and went to bed. The next day promised us Azau field and climbing the Elbrus.
