Hello, guys! I am Angelica. I have a daughter, son and husband. We live in Germany and almost in the Netherlands. Why almost? The next street is already Dutch.
It was April, 8th, 2012. We spent it in Cologne. You’ll meet my family and friends, walk along Cologne streets, visit Cologne Cathedral and a museum of chocolate.

My day starts

The owner of the apartment and my friend Alena has already laid the table for breakfast. It’s Easter today so you see painted eggs and funny decoration.

I must wash and make up

So the breakfast is ready. Fresh and still warm rolls, sausage, cheese, caviar, mozzarella, pancakes, tomatoes… Everything is so tasty!

Time flies. The clock reminds us we have to go.

Off we go

Our destination is Cologne. We luckily find a place for parking for 4 euros for the whole day! Now we can enjoy walking along the embankment of the Rhine.

Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) — a Gothic cathedral, UNESCO object, 157 m high. It has the third place of the highest churches of the world.

An ancient legend says that the architect of Cologne Cathedral Gerhard couldn’t make drawings of the future cathedral so he asked devil to help. The last offered his services in exchange of the architect’s soul. The deal had to come into effect with sunrise after the first cockcrow. But the wife of Gerhard overheard the conversation and decided to save husband. She woke up early in the morning and started crowing instead of the cock. The devil appeared immediately, gave the needed drawings and took her soul away. The deception was revealed but it was too late. So the devil said that Cologne would stand and prosper till Cologne Cathedral is being built. Since that time they have never stopped building it.

Tourist’s life is boiling here at the Cathedral

The next place we visit is the museum of chocolate (Schokoladenmuseum) of the local confectionary company Imhoff-Stollwerck Schokoladenmuseum. The museum arranges 5000 excursions and 650 000 visitors a year, it’s included into the first ten of the most popular German museums.
It is located on the peninsula Rheinauhafen and represents the building in the shape of a ship made of glass and bricks with the area about 2000 m2.

A huge chocolate fountain 3 m high in which about 200 kg of chocolate is circulating. Everyone may taste it.

You may order a chocolate bar with any ingredients you wish for 5 EUR.
