One Cheese Making Day In La Palma

I am Elena and I live in La Palma, a green island ща the Canaries.  We live a funny life there. That was May, 23. I took some photos to show you my day and how goat cheese is made.

Awakening

Dressing

Ready!

Checking mails

Thomas is trying to hide from Fibi, she always tries to climb him wherever he is. Fibi does not like to be rejected..)

Morning weather

Famous clock

I come to the farm of Doris, a wonderful girl from Peru. She has a lot of goats here.

Such tasty things are made of goat milk.
It is specially bloated cheese and Doris is about to show me how it is made step by step.

Milking the goats takes long. A special apparatus is used.

Doris has wonderful helper – dog named Pilyusa. It controls the animals in order they do not escape. It takes its work seriously.

Why not collecting some apricots?

So ecological and tasty

We collected 10 kg in general

Such a nice house is let on lease

We do some shopping in a bio shop

It has cleared away

Izzy looks suspiciously

Feeding cats

It’s a wonderful dog, real friend, the best for me :)

I see the photos I took

Thomas has made smoothie for me.

Now I gonna photograph the house of one local lady. She lets it on lease for tourists. It’s the pine tree with a grown in icon we agreed to meet at.

Red building is a bank

I take some photos of it

Sea views

To save the nectarines from worms each (!) was wrapped…

Going back to Doris.
She’s done all work already and is getting ready to make fresh cheese. She had added lab ferment to milk and it has already turned.  Temperature is very important.

Carefully taking the cheese away

Making holes with a hand to add more mass.

Turning upside down

Cute creatures

Mara is a very smart goat, she can open the door herself and plays with the lock all day long.

I leave Doris and go the printing office to make stickers for her.

And then come back. Doris is getting ready to bloat the cheese. It is made on needles of a Canary pine. Doris is pouring some water to prevent it from burning.

This cheese has been standing for 3-4 days and it doesn’t discharge whey anymore.

Being bloated

Turning upside down

Washing the ready cheese

Soo they will be sold

Time to go home

Observation point on the way

Have to fill up

Rest at home, Fibi is near Thomas as always)

I pack presents for friends in Moscow

Drying apricots and making jam. Plantain tea turned out to be tasty!

Sorting the apricots for jam and drying

In the yard

Time to feed them

I’ve cut everything and turned the dryer on.

Ingredients for jam will stay in the fridge till tomorrow.

I deserve Bloody Mary now – it does not happen often)

Watching how the dogs are playing

So does Louis

Have to water the seedlings

Cherry tree in blossom)

8:20 pm

Sunset

I read my mails, processed the photos, took a shower… It’s almost 11 pm…

Thanks for your attention and bye!
