Hello! My name is Nikita. I want to show you my day in the company of penguins, January, 16th, 2008.
We were aboard the beautiful ship Marco Polo that was in the port Lockroy in Antarctica.

7 a.m. People are still asleep so the corridor is empty.

Beautiful place becomes only more beautiful after a cup of coffee.

Tourists are also up to photograph the icebergs.

The sun is already high. We are close to the polar circle and this is how the local summer looks like. The nights are light.

10-00, first tourists come down into the boats. Not more than 100 men can be ashore at the same time. When this group is back it will be our turn to go.

Now it is our turn!

The miracle of the Soviet shipbuilding is in the background. It was called “Alexander Pushkin” in the 90s, then it was sold and called Marco Polo. We were given the red jackets from the very beginning. As well as the boots. We were allowed to hold the jackets, by the way.

A Chilean flag is guarded by thousands of penguins – the main population of the Chilean base.

It’s such a pleasure to photograph them! They are so funny and cute

People are not allowed to walk along the glacier, but we can enjoy its beauty.

What are they discussing?

Besides, they walk in such a funny way!

Another group of tourists is waiting for its turn to go to the land so we should go back to the ship.

We are talking on the way and looking around.

While we were on the land, our rooms were cleaned and such towel presents were left

It is time to have lunch. Many people are still on the land so it’s quite empty in the restaurant.

Food is free, alcohol – not.

It seems that these landscapes are much alike but you are not tired to take pictures.

Coffee and cigarettes help to warm up.

All people are back aboard and we can sail on.

At 4 p.m. I play bridge as some American despearte housewife:) It makes your brain work and helps to socialize.

It’s cool we are not playing poker, I absolutely can’t hide my emotions.

At 6 p.m. I decide to play ping-pong.

I am playing with the Ukrainian guys. And I lose.

Night show begins at 9 p.m. It is a Filipino Day today. Almost all guys aboard are the Filipinos.

They are not real actors.

I check the program for tomorrow.

In another situation these impressions would be enough for a month ahead. I have no windows but I know it’s still light outside. I didn’t spoil this penguin, luckily we had enough towels on the ship.
