One Day In a Wonderful Thai City

Hello! I am Maya. I am a designer and an art-therapist. I live in Thailand, but not in the place where many Russians live. I live in the area where “white” tourists are rare. Do you want to see Thailand you’ve never seen before?

You gonna see breakfast over the clouds, cockfights, strawberries with salt and pepper, out retro city and the sunset over Mekong.

Welcome to Thailand, Chiang Khan, 12th of November, 2012.

We wake up at 5 in the morning! You gonna find out why.

It is still dark outside. We buy tickets.

We get into the car and go up in the mountains.

We are up to see the outskirts at the sunrise and have a snack.

The fog is slowly disappearing.

We can see Mekong and Laos.

It’s time to go back.

We are back home. This is Umka. He came to Thailand with us from Moscow where we found him in the street. He could not know his masters will be this crazy to move so far :)

It is time to walk with him.

These are Umka’s friends. He must be thinking they are big dogs.

This rice belongs to our neighbours.

This is their scarecrow :)

Here leaves are falling in automn too.

This is my little garden. We ate watermelons and threw seeds here and they sprouted then :)

Kostya is leaving for work.

And I start working too. By the way, I am happy because I love my job.

But I cannot work effectively without tea.

These are our frinds – Natasha and Tip. They gonna teach their cocks to fight and I gonna take pics.

Their story is unusual. Tip has been a buddhist monk for nineteen years while Natasha was working in a bank of Moscow. They met in the tiger reserve of Thailand and soon became a family.

The cock live together and know each other well so they do not want to fight. To make them do this they are made wet. They lose their sense of smell and stop recognizing each other.

For the money we are paid for our one-room flat in Moscow per month we can rent such a house here for half a year!

It’s me. Gonna go to the market.

These are my buyings.

We are going to have lunch.

In Thailand they serve strawberries with salt and pepper!

But I have to work again.

When it’s not so hot I can lie in the hammock.

Then we start washing Umka, he doesn’t like this)

These two stones are on our porch. There was a meteor rain nearby in 1981 and we believe these stones to be meteor fragments. They are too heavy and a compass behaves strangely when close to them.

I wanna pluck some papaya.

ГWe are walking before the sunset. Our city is so cute! It is a retro city. It seems that all people here are in love with retro stuff. They appreciate and multiply their history. For example, it’s a wooden street – all houses are ancient, some of them are more than 100 years old.

I adore how they treat their history and culture. Even this bank is in harmony with the general retro scenery. Everything is made of wood inside too.

Bycicle is another symbol of the city, they are so numerous in the streets!

We are coming to Mekong to watch the sunset.

This man is busy with this strange ferry. We are explained it is a trap for fish and a sailing garden at the same time.

How wonderful local sunsets are!

Today we have dinner in our favourite restaurant. We have found only two places where they serve European food. We like Thai food as well but cannot eat it daily :)

They have a lot of cool stores. One can buy a postcard with a local landscape here, sign it, attach a stamp and put in the mailbox – all in one place!

Also they have a lot of shops with handmade stuff. It inspires me!

This is a mini hotel where a bed is replaced with a car)

Work is waiting for me at home.

And the dessert on the porch. We turn off the light to see the stars.

It’s time to sleep and see sweet dreams :)
